KJ Illusions, Kim’s love of the magical arts all started when she purchased a Fisher-Price Magic Show. Kim was only four years old when she rushed to open the box, read the cartoon instructions and put on the first family show. She was hooked. Kim, better known to the magicians as KJ, developed a keen appreciation for the various aspects of this art form. KJs first public performance was in all school talent show when she was in second grade. Her first paid performance was a birthday party when she was eight. The love of magic and illusions was of high importance and she quickly became a regular at the local magic store, Sun Magic. The instructor complained, “I don’t want a little girl in this class, they just don’t keep up”. By the end of the first class, KJ was helping the adults with the simple slights. KJ’s first stage illusion was Lady from the Light for a school talent show She produced her fourth grade teacher who was almost 7 foot tall from the shadow box that was only 40 inches high. By the time she was in sixth grade she was a regular at Magic Club meetings. At the end of sixth grade KJ traveled to several schools, providing end of year entertainment in 30 minute illusion shows, including “Lady from the Light” and “Metamorphosis (Sub Truck)”. KJ reflects that she is so thankful to all the teachers, grandfather figures and supporters. By the time she was a junior in high school she was performing a full stage illusion show running 90 minutes to 2 hours. KJ performed in schools, churches, camps and retirement communities, throughout Arizona. “If you have a flat surface, we can do a show”, was the motto. Included in the show were the standards with her own twist, plus two of her own creation. “Love Changes Everything” was a series of productions, the produced items were added to a cardboard silhouette, and then the cardboard silhouette transformed to a real person. In “KJ’s Table of Death”, the assistant ran swords through her knees and neck, and a light saber tube through her middle, then in a flash of fire she disappeared and then reappeared in the back of the auditorium. This illusion delighted every audience fortunate enough to witness the act. KJ attended Chavez School on Magic in California. Dale Salwak, teacher, had seen KJ perform and suggested rather than the normal six months to complete the course that KJ should be able to complete the material in one month. She learned the entire course in four weeks except cigarette manipulation. Dale, being fatherly and concerned for her ultimate well-being, thought that she should never perform cigarette material. Soon KJ added new elements to her show including, “Miser’s Dream”, “Card Flourishes” and “Ball Manipulation”. KJ Illusions is available today for a variety of magical presentations! |
